You Can Dress Any Way You Want!
December 26, 2008
Hello again:
Well, I hope you had a good Christmas. I also hope that you are feeling positive. It helps!
Here’s a way to feel better fast - Smile!
Scientists have proven that certain chemicals in your brain that make you feel good flood your brain cells when you turn up the corners of you mouth slightly. Even picturing a smile in your mind produces these chemicals.
So go for it! Smile. You’ll feel better. People you meet will feel better. It’s a winner all the way around.
I gotta think that you are interested in finding a way to make money online…am I right? Well, I am one stubborn guy when know I’m on the right path and I believe I am on the right path.
What path is it?
I picked the niche of Internet Marketing because I came from offline marketing and so much of this is the same. The big differences between marketing online vs marketing outside is the tools used and the cost to operate them.
Online marketing is incredibly cheap. With a little bit of labor I can set up a full fledged Internet Marketing business for under $200. That’s impossible in the offline world.
How can I say that? I have an offline business www.rileysrealwood.com/ Yep, that’s mine. Take a look. It’s named after me!
The overhead (cost of doing business) on that nice little store runs $40k - $45k per month) So, if you are using the 45,000/mo figure that means you have to PROFIT $1500/day to break even. That takes between 90 and 100 thousand in sales per month. Phew! No wonder so many of them go broke.
When I discovered Internet Marketing(IM) I was fabbergasted at the low operational expenses and at the same time overwhelmed with new terminology and equipment.
The marketing was about the same though.
I got thrown out of the store quite a while ago, so I had some time on my hands. And I had a laptop. And I saw IM as a fun opportunity.
So much money…so many ways to make it.
This morning, the morning after Christmas, I got up determined to do something for my readers in this post.
I’m going to tell you exactly what I did to get money going INTO my paypal account.
I’m also going to make you an offer that I am fairly certain a lot of you will want.
And then, if there’s is time I’m going to show you a “Biz in a Box” that I rigged up
But you are going to have to know how to do some things. The same things I did.
So, I barged right into Internet Marketing. I learned how to build a webpage.
Then I bought a domain name/ hosting package for it, and I put my webpage online.
I used FREE FTP and loaded some files by hand!
Then I started a blog. This one. I wanted to use the blog to detail my experiences going from knowing nothing about Internet Marketing to actually having money going into my paypal account. What a thrill!
You gotta get there! Don’t let the rush of making money out of the air… while you sleep, slip out of your grasp. If you are cut for this sort of thing then, by all means, do it!
Well, this happens. I’ll get a quick start tomorrow and finish this up.
Remember I’m going to tell you how I did it and what I used.
Then I’m going to make you an offer that I am sure you’re going to like.
And, I’ll show you that “Biz in a Box“ I rigged up so you can look at it thoroughly. I’ll show you the “kit and I’ll show you the kit deployed and working.

My Favorite Ebooks on Internet Marketing! December 3, 2008
Posted by Riley West in : The Making of an Internet Marketer , 5commentsHello again…Riley here:
There are a lot of Internet Marketers out there that will show you what they want you to buy, usually based on the products sales volume and commission structure.
I bought and absorbed a $2000 marketing course. I learned a LOT! I don’t recommend it for people who are looking for an easier, softer way into the world of Internet Marketing (IM).
Looking back, I think a person could get into this, including getting to the “make money” stage for less than $500 bucks and a LOT of homework!
But I have to tell you, that for me it was hard, costly, stressful, and, at times, I thought about just stopping. But then I realized that, if I stopped, I’d never get there. See that’s the secret. If you start down this road…don’t quit!
I’m in that old situation where if I’d known what I know now I would have been in the money a lot sooner.
I bought and read Butterfly Marketing and Google Cash and I qualify as an affiliate salesperson for those two very popular titles. But I won’t recommend them.
They aren’t presented in the personal, personable, casual way I want my information to be. I always was like that and won’t change. When I met these Marketing Mavens in England I was so taken by their style of instruction that I bought ALL of their books (about 20) and had them printed.
As soon as I started applying what they showed me, things started to happen for me. For example this blog was at their urging and it has kickstarted my sales like non other. If you would like the book of theirs that I purchased to start this blog, email me at riley@rwestdotcom.com and I will send you the very same book…FREE!
I’m certain they are the best and they might be for you too! So, for starters, here are four of their books I think no one should miss.
1. The Smart Marketers Handbook.
4. Licensed to Quit (Your job)
And finally, their very good and compehensive Kickstart Marketing Course.
Finally, If you have any questions about these recommendations.. pop me off an email to riley@rwestdotcom.com and I will answer as many as I can!
Thank you Again,
Here’s to Your Success,
Riley West - An Oregon pioneer making his way in the trade
PS: There is one other very high quality info site and I can honestly say that I have benefited greatly from just their FREE INFORMATION. The free info you’ll get there is better than 95% of the “Paid For” Stuff.
You have less than nothing to lose and you have a lot to gain. Go here!
Listen, I have to tell you this…this link is to The Man who invented Internet Marketing and he is a very cool, down to earth guy, and that’s why I like him.
His name is Ken McCarthy and he is the real deal. Be on his list.
Go there….be unafraid.
Here’s to your success,

Testing for Targeted Traffic With Article Marketing November 1, 2008
Posted by Riley West in : The Making of an Internet Marketer , 2commentsHello Folks:
When I got up this morning this idea was already in my head. The idea I have is to write this post documenting what should be a positive traffic generation exercise.
It’s good old article writing.
I’ve done it many times but I never did it enough. I didn’t distribute enough articles. There are experts in this field who say that 3 articles a day is needed. Wow! And, when you take that times 25 article distribution sites that’s 75 articles per day.
Well, the gloves have left my face red, and the gauntlet is thrown down. We duel at dawn. I hope it’s nice weather.
I don’t yet know how I’d accomplish that but I am going to find a way to make article marketing bring targeted traffic to an offer on this blog and make money.
After all, this is a blog about making money!
So, first of all I am going to drive traffic to my tutorial on Article Marketing that is sprinkled around these pages. You can see it here.
If nothing else I get a few more sales BUT I’m going to tell you exactly what I did, which will include a professional article submission service.
There’s a lot to this and I am no way an expert, but there are issues.
Some people worry that you can’t put the same article out there to various article distribution outfits because of the duplicate content penalty. If there is one.
Other people are concerned that links back from a bunch of low page rank article sites will negatively impact you directly resulting in lowered page rank for you!
I’ve heard it argued both ways and I’m tired of it.
If duplicate content is punished by Google in some way how can it be that there is so much of it out there? Look at the news sites…they all have the same content!
Oh well, all I want is buying traffic and I’m going to go get it this way for now and if you want to follow along here I’ll post almost daily about it…BUT…I don’t want this blog to become an article marketing only blog.
A couple of years back, way before I was ready, I put up a website that had pretty good content around Internet Marketing and a few affiliate offers. I also had the basic autoresponder building a list and I felt like I was giving it a good try.
Then I ran into a Google Adwords gig that tied me up for months! I just let the site die. I don’t recommend that. Now I’m a believer that you should have a core business and that any work you do should be to build that business!
At least for a while! If it’s hard to succeed at one business how hard is it to succeed at two? I think the difficulty for me, at first especially, would be exponentially more difficult. I’m only guessing but I have two dogs. Little wiener dogs.
For a while we only had one. Then we lost him! One of our relatives rushed us over a replacement wiener dog. Then we found the lost one! Now we had two.
Why am I telling you this? Because I sometimes have trouble staying on track, but this dog thing made me state that one dog is the hassle of one dog but two dogs is 4 times the hassle since we imputed that dog hassles go up as the square of the number of dogs.
Then our son, who has a wiener dog, had to board the little devil at our house while he (our son) tried to recuperate from a horrible motorcycle accident. It took him a whole year to get back to 90% of what he was before the crash. And we had his great little wiener dog for six months!
That was when I discovered that 3 dogs is 9 times the hassle of one dog but only about twice the hassle of two dogs.
Anyway, for now at least this blog and it’s attendant work load are the only thing I’m doing for a while.
Believe or not this post is about article writing for targeted traffic. The only experience I have with this is the 30 articles I wrote and submitted in the course of two months about a year and a half ago.
Even though I did it as an amateur and without guidance the posting of 30 articles to about 8 directories caused lots of traffic. But I didn’t do it right and now I know that. More important is that I now know where to get the exact advice on how to do it right so I’m just going to follow that and report to you the results.
It should be interesting. I’m going to put the reporting on a page and not a post. It’d get too messy otherwise.
So, yesterday I submitted the first two articles written in the way this new tutorial tells me to so we are on the way. Now, I only started and only submitted to Ezinearticles. I have accounts at the top ten article distribution outfits that i set up a couple years back so I’m good to go, and, in a few days, I’m going to use a professional article submitter outfit and try to amp this thing up!
So, let’s see how it goes. Here’s the Tutorial sales page.
Thanks again - as always…please leave comments.

How To KickStart Your Way Into Internet Marketing -2 October 23, 2008
Posted by Riley West in : The Making of an Internet Marketer , add a commentKickstart Your Internet Motorcycle - You Need to Roll!
Making Money as an Internet Marketer.
Sara and Tony know how to do it and they can show you how to do it, too!
Hello Folks:
The first weekly lesson plan for The KickStart Course is out and I have read it all - twice! I’m signed up for the whole thing and will review it all!
This baby looks good! It is a totally ambitious project. But I have known these folks for some time now and I think they have the correct plan and the cheek to pull it off.
What they are offering, for $27 dollars per month, is weekly lessons with action plans, that, they say, will move you up and out to making money on the web.
Now, we have sort of seen this before. And much of the time it didn’t work out.
I feel most of time when it didn’t work out was because the course material wasn’t graduated up from the beginning like it should be. Or it was just bad.
You see…I know! I have been in the trenches. But I got out!
A beginner is a lost soul of a sort. They are hungry or they wouldn’t be there. Since they know little to nothing about Internet Marketing they are primo targets for the fast talking scams. Like hungry fish that spot a pretty lure.
We’ve all seen “How Would You Like to Earn $10,000 a Month Like I Do?” It’s a nice headline for sucking in a newcomer and taking their money! But they rarely deliver the goods.
How are you going to take a Newcomer to Internet Marketing and move him through the initial stages without losing them? That’s my interest since I am one of the ones who broke through the learning stage and put it together.
Even bolder is the claim that the newcomer will be “in the money” by the sixth week or so.
But that is the nature of Sara Brown and Tony Shepherd. Two of the best IM’ers I’ve met and uniquely able to know how to do it and show how to do it!
If you are looking for a way to get into the money this course will take you there.
I think! Honestly, I don’t know. But I have used all of their prior IM opportunities and I can vouch for the fact that it is all top drawer!
It helps that they are the kind of folks who answer your emails. (Maybe they are cringing right now because there is getting to be a LOT of people following Sara and Tony and they may get overwhelmed with emails)
A person can only handle so much!
Which is the exact reason they are initiating this project. Well, there are two reasons, actually. One, they can make money at it. Two, they can show others how to make money at it.
Fellow readers, I have been around the block! I’ve seen crappy work and I’ve seen Gold. And I gotta tell you, there isn’t much of the really good stuff. This is good stuff!
Sara and Tony produce lots of the “really good stuff” and I am proud to be in their acquaintance. They have helped me a lot.
Believe it or not, good help is not enough. You have to be a good student and having gone through university and flight school I know how the instruction to execution ratio has to go.
I wouldn’t want to dissuade anybody but let me say this.
My instructor showed me how to land each plane about 10 times. After I’d done it another 20 to 30 times by myself I was getting it. Landing a plane is not difficult, if you have the right mindset.
You see, this is a process, not a get rich scheme that leaves people feeling taken advantage of.
This blog is here to point out the very best ways to get started in Internet Marketing, and I will provide no less.
I am one of the few reviewers and referrers that will give you an email address that will be answered by me. Not a support staff. Contact me at riley@rwestdotcom.com and I will get right back to you.
So…I am saying to you…sign up for this before it’s not there anymore. There really are only 500 slots. And I bought one of them!
I am leaving you with this advice and question. Are you making enough money at Internet Marketing? If so, you may not need this.
From personal experience I can tell you that I may not have gotten full value out of a learning course the first time. The second time, however, I got it down pat and walked out of the room ready to win. I don’t always get it the first time!
That’s one of the neat things about owning an entire course. You can repeat it!
There is a Perfect Guarantee of your money back if you don’t like this thing for any reason. But let me tell you why I don’t like that.
I think you need to commit! Get on a path and beat feet down it! 90% of the folks trying to get into this lucrative field drop out because of two main reasons.
The big reason is poor instructional opportunities - scams, or nearly so.
The other reason is a lack of “stick-to-it-iveness”
But you do want to stick to something worth it, don’t you? This is it!
If you will start this Internet Marketing lesson program and stick with it, I, personally, will guarantee your money back if you don’t like it for any reason.
But,you have to give it your best! I’m talking to you here! It’s up to you! But we will make it as easy a course as you ever took and succeeded at!
Do this and you WILL MAKE MONEY!
Go to this place now and sign up! You will have your first lesson in minutes!
Then…stick to it! Study your brains out. You’ll win.
Thank you again,

A Killer Resource That Doesn’t Take an Arm or a Leg! October 23, 2008
Posted by Riley West in : The Making of an Internet Marketer , 2commentsHello Folks:
I have bought and paid for a LOT of how to ebooks and about half of them were OK to good and a few of them were totally excellent. The totally excellent stuff is what you’ll find in the blog.
You might want to slap me around a little for not telling you about this sooner.
You see, back in the day, when I was careening from one ebook to another I fell across one book (not an ebook) that literally changed the way I saw marketing on the net. I could see clearly now. I understood. The big picture.
The man behind this is named Ken McCarthy and you would do very well to hear him. (or read him) He’s a great writer and makes it fun! But, there’s a catch. Isn’t there always?
The catch is that a big part of his information is FREE.
As it turns out this guy is one of the pre-eminent teachers of Internet Marketing Skills in the world.
I hadn’t heard of him a couple of years ago and it wouldn’t be a surprise if you haven’t either. You may not have heard of Ken but all the big name marketers have. Many of them studied under him.
Every year he has this big gathering called the System Seminar that people from all over the world come to attend. A $2500 event. Plus travel and incidentals like food.
So it’s high end stuff but it’s presented in such a way that totally sets it apart from the other things you may have read about or attended.
But I’m getting ahead of myself! Here’s the nugget! This guy hands out free information like he has to get rid of it fast!
And this information is better, often, than anything you can buy and it’s all about how to Market on the Net.
Here’s what I did. He gives out so much info in the form of mp3’s (ipod) that I just put them on my ipod and listen to them when I’m out for a walk or driving somewhere.
Each of these tapes (not really a tape but I don’t know what to call them) is about an hour long and is an interview between Ken McCarthy and one of the people who is going to be teaching their specialty at the System coming up.
What’s really great about these interviews is that they are not a pitch-fest! They are an in depth look at a certain area of Internet Marketing skills with lots of good useable, actionable tips and skills that you can take away (FREE) and use to build your business or skills or both!
I love what this man produces! I think many of you will too. This is both bedrock action info and advanced techniques that will blow you away. Exciting stuff.
Go here and sign up for the Free Pre-System Seminar. A free information series you will not regret! This will really add to your arsenal of good usable knowledge. I did it and I won’t quit doing it! It’s Free and it’s Good!
They also sell products, too. Who wouldn’t? And this Internet Marketing information is absolutely top drawer. But that’s getting ahead of ourselves. Go get the Free Pre-System Seminar right now and, please, come back here and tell me what you think. I’d love to hear it. As always you can email me at riley@rwestdotcom.com/
Thank you - Please leave a Comment!

How to Kickstart Your Way Into Internet Marketing -1 October 22, 2008
Posted by Riley West in : The Making of an Internet Marketer , 2commentsThis is the first chapter in what will be a multi-chapter detailed review of the new Weekly Lesson Plan program offered by Sara Brown and Tony Shepherd. It is called The KickStart Course.
This is a training program is produced by a couple of people I have been lucky enough to work with for quite a while now, and I still do. I consider them to be very high caliber instructors of Internet Marketing processes. So far, for me, they are the best.
Plus, they are easy to get along with, these two. They are folksy to a point and approachable. What I appreciate most about these two Brits is that they are very good at making money on the web and uniquely capable of telling you how to do it, too.
There are thousands of people out in the world of “make money online” that offer plans ranging from $47 to $2000 plus that are “Guaranteed” to teach you the ins and outs of marketing on the ‘net. In my experience there are none better than than these guys.
And, their program is just plain inexpensive. it might just be “Your Way“.
Before I really get going on this I’d like to demonstrate how a seemingly simple thing can get out of hand and cause frustrated newcomers to quit in droves.
First I should admit that I have bought over $5000 worth of ebooks and instructionals and, while I learned a lot in all that study, I still had to figure out dozens of little details myself.
And some of those little details can be a deal breaker.
That’s not a bad thing. it’s just the way it is.
Case in point…one day (I might have a bad nights sleep the night before) I got into a big clustercrunch about the paypal buy now buttons.
Really! I was setting up another salespage and when I got to that part of building the page that required me to go into paypal for code, I hit a brick wall.
Now, mind you, I made paypal buy now buttons before, and successfully. It would have been funny if I wasn’t in some sort of self imposed rush. I’m self employed! I don’t have to rush very often
Anyway, I got into paypal and had trouble with the code. That drug out for a while and frustrated me a little but then…then I really hit trouble.
See, after you buy something on paypal they end you up on a return to merchant page. There is a button there that says “return to merchant” on it.
Well, it would just take you back to your sales page if you let it and I knew darn well that I wanted my customer to go to the download page when he/she punched the button.
I couldn’t figure out how to do it! I couldn’t find the place in paypals extensive site that allows you to assign the “return to merchant” button a url that has your download page on it.
Simple if you can find it…impossible if you can’t.
No problem…I called paypal help! By the way that is a feat unto itself. They make finding the phone number damn near impossible and when you do find it and call you are looking at a pretty good wait!
I can practically recite their “Your phone call is important to us..blah,blah…” spiel.
Finally I got a gal who was hard to understand. Her English was a heck of a lot better than my second language is but I still had to have her repeat herself over and over.
As I tried to explain to her what I was hung up on she had to keep putting me on hold while she ran and asked someone who might know. What a horrible job. I felt sorry for her and kinda mad at the same time!
After a LOT of that, the gal came back online with an answer I knew she was reading. The essence of the answer was that there was “No way to achieve changing the url on the return to merchant page unless you resort to a custom software developer!”
I sort of raised my voice a little and said “There sure as hell is a way! It’s done all the time and even I have done it before but I guess I forgot which trapdoor to fall into.” She just read me the same answer over again..like I didn’t get it.
I said again “There is a way and it’s simple and I just can’t find it! The fact that it’s easy and you can’t even help me with it is mind bending! Can’t Paypal do better than that?
She read me the answer again! I hung up before I said something untoward.
I gave up. I had a snack. Drank a beer or two. Watched a movie. Went to bed.
I got up in the morning and said something like this to myself “I’m getting past this stupid button thing! I’ve got things to do!
So I called them again. I got a gal who was little easier to understand. Things were looking better.
I told her I couldn’t find the place to change the url in the return to merchant button.
Without hesitation she said “That’s under the profile dropdown.” There will be three columns of preferences and that feature is in the third column. It’s down toward the bottom and it’s called “website payment preferences”
I haven’t had a problem since. But that was a toughie and it shouldn’t have been.
I would bet , like a lot of other little details, that some fledgling marketers would throw up their hands and walk out mad determined to stick with their job.
Internet Marketing has lots of little details like that. I know for a fact that stops a lot of folks from getting anywhere. They just give up.
Don’t let that be you. You can learn any of the mechanical stuff like building webpages and uploading files and setting up autoresponders. You may have trouble with copy writing…some do. But you can find a workaround for copy writing.
But I think what kills off so many prospective Internet Marketers is that they just couldn’t get to that point where they could see it all, how it works, and put it together.
And that’s what I want to talk about over the next few posts because something has occurred that can change the rocky process of learning to a more calculated and smoother progression of improvement.
This is a training program that was produced by a couple of people I have been lucky enough to work with, and still do, that I consider very high caliber instructors of Internet Marketing processes. So far, for me, they are the best.
Their style of instruction works for me better than anything else I’ve done and I’ve done a LOT!
I could go on and on about how much I like the info products I have purchased from these folks, Sara and Tony in Great Britain. And I will! But not here now. This post is getting too long.
I’ll see you tomorrow and we’ll pick up where we left off with a detailed review of their new product! It could be just the thing for you. If you’d like to visit the site and familiarize yourself with what I consider to be a groundbreaking new development please do so.
Thanks again - Please leave a comment!

The 10 Basic Things You Need for Successful Internet Marketing. October 20, 2008
Posted by Riley West in : The Making of an Internet Marketer , 3commentsHello Folks:
Before we get into the meat of this days discussion I’m going to give you a link to free PDF called “Ten Basic Things You Need for Successful Internet Marketing.
Look at it when you get a chance. If you are looking to get into Internet Marketing you need to know what these “ten basics” are! Plus, if you purchase the PLR rights, you can put your own affiliate links into the document, Pass them around FREE and you’ll get some link pops from the people you give this to and who in turn, check out one of your links and ends up buying. This is a money-maker.
So here it is…“The Ten Basics…..”
And now todays post…
Did you ever go fishing without the bait? Did you ever try without hooks? Or a line?
You can’t fasten down your handlebars without a bolt. Or a wrench of some sort.
It’s hard to do anything without the right tools!
I could go on. I just want you to understand that there are some basic ingredients to Internet Marketing that you really can’t do without.
OK. Enough! You want to know what the ten basic things are that you need to know to be able to successfully market via the internet.
In order to have an article here that doesn’t get way too long I am going to put links into the list for additional information and resources.
With no further ado…here we go…
1. You must understand what IM is, it’s various forms, it’s jargon, and have a little grasp of the lay of the land. It’s made up in part with Affiliate Sales, Selling your own product, E mail marketing, and sales of physical products to name the most well known.
2. One really must be able to make up a simple website for themselves.
3. A beginning marketer should know what a domain name is, and how to get one. The same goes for hosting. That’s the outfit that will put your webpage up on the web with your domain name as it’s address. In this catagory you must know how to upload the files you need to make that website appear on their servers. That would be FTP software. You need to learn about that. I recommend hostgator. It’s the one I use and it has great support!
4. A student of Internet Marketing (IM) has to know about automatic email followup sales campaigns. I use Aweber. It’s the best. Almost everyone uses it. Great tutorials! Only $19.95/mo. Worth three times that.
5. You need to understand what keywords are and how to work a simple keyword tool so that Google (or someone else) can show you the keywords. Other terms for keywords are “keyword phrase”, ” long tail keywords”, or even “search query”. Additionally, you should open a Google account. It’s free and has so much cool stuff that it is a killer resource.
6. You need to know how to drive traffic to your website. You can learn all about that here. Otherwise it will just sit there, unvisited. There are various methods. One of the most popular is writing articles. When I first heard of this I was intimidated. After I had learned how to write and submit articles it was easy and it caused traffic to come to my salespages.
7. You certainly would want to know how to let people pay you for what you offer and how to collect it. (It’s automatic) Start with Paypal.
8. One should get a blog started. They are easy to do and sometimes they can substitute for a website and/or drive traffic to a website. I recommend Wordpress hosted on your account. It’s FREE!
How I did it: I signed up for Domain and Hosting at Hostgator. They are great to deal with and have the very best customer support I have encountered. That alone is BIG!
They also include a free program called Fantastico. It will install your wordpress blog effortlessly. When you get that done email me at riley@rwestdotcom.com and I will email you an ebook For FREE that tells you how to set up your blog for maximum traffic. Works for me at 24 Hour Wordpress Guru.
Tip: Don’t fall for the free hosting Wordpress offers (Or Blogger) When you have your own name and hosting you are in control. Wordpress hosting does not allow sales pages and affiliate links.
I tried it once (because it was free) and they caught me right away and sent me packing!
9. FTP! File Transfer Protocol. What a name! Someone is just trying to sound geeky. Don’t worry about it. It’s totally easy. Way easier than doing it by hand! (Yours truly tried to hang on to the old ways but finally got dragged into the 21st Century)
Use it to upload files to your hosting servers so your webpages can be on the net. There’s lots of them for sale. I use a free one! Cyberduck. Yes Cyberduck…odd name… FREE! Works Great!
For the PC/Windows crowd there is FileZilla! It’s FREE too! I’m not sure why but EVERYBODY freaks at the idea of FTP (File Transfer Protocol) At First. I guess it sounds hairy…but it’s NOT!
FTP Makes the whole process of uploading and downloading files darn near effortless! Now, I LIKE that!
10. Maybe you are one of those folks who want to be taken by the hand and carefully led down the path to Internet Marketing Success.
I don’t blame you! If this had been available when I started (and I knew about it) I would have gone this route for sure!
It’s the Internet Marketing KickStart Course! I recommend it highly.
If I had this list and the information and resource links within I would have gotten off to a lot better start.
Thank You,
Riley West - An Oregon pioneer making his way in the trade.

Webpage Building - Learning New Stuff - Getting Things Done October 19, 2008
Posted by Riley West in : The Making of an Internet Marketer , 3commentsI’m 60 years old. Anybody could get a lot done if they had that much time to do it in. That’s what happens if you let 59 get past you.
This post is about getting things done.
The problem I see holding people back from Getting Things Done is two things. Maybe three.
One, They don’t put much into their time.
Two, They don’t have specific goals.
Three…They don’t have a step by step plan to achieve those goals.
I don’t mean I know every step I am going to take to get to my goals. I run into the same unexpected setbacks everybody else does. And I’m not going to sell you a Zig Ziglar tape. (although he is excellent)
It’s just that I stick on one step until I get it done. Get it done!
I don’t know what happened to me the other day. It was like I suddenly had big holes in my memory.
Now, I don’t always get it the first time. Does anybody? If you all say everybody does I’m going to feel really stupid because for me it’s actually like I never get it the first time.
I have trouble keeping it simple but I am determined to do so. Still getting stuff done and knowing what to do next is an artful balance that I work on every day. For me, it actually makes things interesting.
I guess you just don’t know what you don’t know and it shouldn’t be a surprise. But what yanks my chain is higher eschelon gurus selling HTGR systems centered in Internet Marketing and it’s all so elaborate. Yawn. Pause.
It’s also darned expensive.
Recently I stumbled across a promotion that had all the hallmarks of your typical giant launch and this one was a doozie. It had a large commitment built right in and was going to insure your rapid rise in earnings by determining this one thing.
This “thing” was your “major constraint” Find out what that is, get over it or get past it and get on with your life of riches.
Well, I don’t know about you, but I have so many constraints that my modus operandi has always been to seek progress in spite of my shortcomings.
Well, my major “constraint” has got to be ADD. I have had it all my life. Makes it difficult to concentrate.
So I became a list freak. It seemed to me that if I could just get all my to-dos onto a list (and not lose that list or become overwhelmed by it) I could prioritize my to-dos and just start slugging away.
Except…I’m not so hot at prioritizing. And I’m easily distracted.
I want to tell you this simple thing I do to keep my rats nest of a brain on track.
Here’s what happens to me when I don’t use this little trick.
I open my laptop and something catches my eye or I suddenly remember that I may have an answer to an email I sent yesterday or do I have some new people on my list and is my email sequence ahead of or behind…oh I think you get the picture.
My paypal account, how about clickbank, did I test that last download page, oops I didn’t check the links in that pdf, oh and even worse… I changed the name of one of the files so now I have to go all over the universe fixing those links or just say screw it or change the file name back even if it is the wrong name…
Sound familiar? You do what I’m doing up there in that last paragraph and you aren’t going anywhere very fast. Plus you are becoming a trained expert in the art of living in chaos.
That’s me. But I got a workaround. It’s simple. I say no. And I keep a good pen and paper right next to my computer so that when I know what the next best thing is that I should do to move forward I write it down there.
When I finish what I’m doing currently I move to that entry on my list. I look at it. I think “That’s the best next thing. Let’s get ‘er done. Where the best place to start. What do I do first. Go. Get on it.”
I usually have good things to do next on that list and, when it comes to my current endeavors, one of the questions I ask myself daily is “What is the best thing I can do to cinch down loose ends or move my business forward?”
For me it’s usually fix up or add some infrastructure and work on building traffic.
Is it really that simple? Just two things? Infrastructure or traffic. That’s it. Zen moment.
My house is in the woods. Time for a walk. Relax. When I come back I’ll do one of two things. Work or not work. If it’s work I’ll do one of two things. Easy boy. Whoa.
That was fun, see you next time. Comments wanted!
Wholeheartedly here,

The All Time Number One Secret to Making Money on the Internet Revealed Here! October 17, 2008
Posted by Riley West in : The Making of an Internet Marketer , 1 comment so farHello Folks:
Have you ever wondered why someone will sell you secrets to getting rich for a paltry sum? I have. Then, of course, I dismissed that thought as the demented musings of an out of control ebook buyer.
Yep. That’s me.
I hope it’s you, too, because I have some ebooks I’d like you to see!
You know, it seems to me that if it was a secret they wouldn’t tell you.
We don’t need secrets! We need facts!
We want hard core, tell me exactly how-to-do it, step by step type instruction.
Well, we have that available. There are so many good compilations of Internet Marketing (IM) information out there and that itself is a bit of a problem.
If I were to market it all as an affiliate there is no webpage big enough to put all the links on. Besides, who’d want it?
Still, There are a couple of books I’m going to recommend right in this post. This is in line with my policy of recommending only that which I have read and used or otherwise vetted thoroughly.
But first I want to tell you what I found to be the real key (not secret) to making things work.
Call it implementation. Just do it! Start near the beginning and stay on it till it’s done and tested and working! (note tested and working)
That’s right, work! But not just any kind of work. I do my best when I make a checklist for a project and just work down the list with the determination to get to the end.
Here’s how that’d go for me.
First I’d decide, through using it and testing it, that I want to offer the same thing that worked for me to you guys. Kind of a no brainer. But I can screw it up.
So I have to be methodical. I make my list. Works for any project. The one I’m showing you a bit of here was to make a working ebook sales site.
I get my sales page ready. There is often a hang up or two available right here. And…sure enough…the last time…
I got into a titanic clustercrunch over the paypal button. I just could not get it to work. I’m not exaggerating even a little when I say I tried and tried, got mad and kicked my chair and maybe cussed for at least 4 hours and had to give up!
I was worn out! I drank some beer, watched television and went to bed.
The next morning I came down to the friggin’ mess and sat down to do battle again with that crappy paypal “help” as they call it. I got nowhere.
Now, I know, for a fact that after a customer makes a purchase that you, the merchant, can assign a certain url to the “return to merchant” button. The customer will be whisked right to the download page where he can get his goodies.
(and a little more if you want to give them a pleasant surprise)(tip).
I checked my email and there was two messages from two IM guru types who I had emailed the day before when I was about to go nuts. You gotta love ‘em!
Boom. I had my fix and I could move on.
Now, I’m not going to have to waste a half day or more again on the blippin paypal button. But you can’t do without it! I HAD to fix it. A simple thing, like a hole, can sink a boat!
So now I could move again.
It felt like that time when I was sailing by Friday Harbor and got my keel stuck in sand. If it had been retractable I would have been ok. We were stuck there for quite a while before someone came along and tossed us a line.
We were under weigh again!
And, so will you be on your way again right after you work through your next barrier.
Here is one deal I ran across that solved several things for me AND provided me with something I could sell that everybody needs! 24hr
And, here’s a place I frequent where you can systematically learn that which you need, for the rest of your career, for a small, one time fee.
Thanks again - Comments Welcome!

I Didn’t Like Blogs When I First Saw Them! October 14, 2008
Posted by Riley West in : The Making of an Internet Marketer , add a commentThat’s right. I was all about websites. I learned how to make them. I learned how to get a domain name and hosting. That’s what actually takes your web files and presents it to the world as a screen filling webpage. It’s simple… you just have to get into it and get ‘er done.
I got my start making websites that feature furniture people have shown an interest in. I have an inventory right here in town. I have a store. Always have. Now I’m looking for another way to get people who might be interested in what I have to sell to come into my store.
And I’m finding out that folks don’t have to wonder, they can just follow a proven path!
I wanted to use websites to drive customers to my store. And, now, I am doing it. Customers are coming to my store daily and saying that they saw it on the net. Some say they found me on Google!
One of the things that used to perplex me was this idea. I put up some Google ads and people from Nairobi click. I pay for the click and they can’t come to Oregon.
No problem! Did you know that you can now trace a circle around on a map and set up your ads to ONLY run inside that circle! This is big.
We have had 16 months of record business and we attribute the increase in sales to the Google Adwords campaigns. And nobody clicks from Nairobi! Or even California.
I mean people now days are going to Google like the new phone book. And now you can use it for Stanley the Plumber in Eugene, Oregon.
I’ve been using Google Adwords for almost 2 years 24/7. I’ve made some mistakes and now I’m quite a bit better.
Now I also offer products in several countries but those are downloadable.
Stanley the Plumber doesn’t want to fix somebody’s toilet in New Zealand, even if they CAN speak English.
The point I’m making here is that, as soon as I made my first website, I ran over to Google Adwords and put an ad campaign together. I knew in the first days whether or not this was a winner and if it wasn’t I could pause and tweak it!
But, as you know, Google isn’t the only way to get traffic to a website. There’s lots of ways.
But Google is the only low effort, low cost (if you know what you are doing and are NOT forgetful) way to find out fast whether a site will sell or not.
So now, I get an idea, I make a simple website fast and advertise it on Google. That can still take me half a day but I’ll know whether I’m on to something or not 2 days later. That’s Testing!
Listen Guys and Gals. There are lots of clever dudes out there trying to sell you the latest greatest, wipe out the competition, keyword robot and cash collector.
Fuggeddabouditt! Stay small and learn the basics. Then you’ll not have to be embarrassed when someone asks you if you have websites. You’ll not feel awkward when they ask you if you have ever made any money at this, because you will have made some.
When I was a 12-13 year old I took newspapers down to the busy corner in my little town. I held them up and said “Read all about it!” I sold some.
Here’s the simple formula for busting in to the world of Internet Marketing.
Learn to build a webpage so you can put together an offer!
Learn to name the project (Get a domain name)
Learn to get it hosted.
Learn to Upload files to your ISP’s servers. Now you are up and online.
Now - Get Traffic to your offer. Hope they buy. If they don’t buy - know why!
Getting Traffic - that’s the biggie. Lots more on that later.
Your comments are welcome,
Riley West - An Oregon pioneer making his way in the trade.
PS: Start out right bylearning how to make a webpage.
psps: If the offer above doesn’t interest you (which would surprise me!) get my FREE PDF.
After you read this you will have webpage building software AND a real opportunity for making a few bucks on the web.
