Internet Marketing Anyone?
In the interest of keeping internet advertisers honest, a darn good idea, the FTC has come out recently with some new rules.
Mostly it deals with two issues…
1. Compensation Disclosure
2. Honesty about average results.
The following “in quotes” copy was paraphrased by me.
“To sum it up, the new guidelines state that you have to clearly disclose that you are either being compensated or have a vested interest (commissions) in the products, services or otherwise “stuff” you feature in ANY of your content.
And ,whenever you make claims about an offer – or publish testimonials – you have to either clarify or verify what the actual, average results are for an average user of the product.”
Well, I think it’s a good idea! I always hated the overstuffed hype that passes for ad copy in so much of this online world.
Compensation Disclosure
So, here is my attempt at Compensation Disclosure, which will improve as I get the idea with a little more “clarity”.
If you, The reader, click a live hyperlink anywhere on this blog there is a good chance that I would be paid a commission if you proceed to buying something. The commission amount varies and the highest one I ever got was $47.
If it’s a ten dollar item, I’m probably not going to make more than 5 or 6 dollars.
That’s about it…I make a little money sometimes and it is always initiated by the affiliate tracking code in the hyperlink you click to go take a look at whatever it is that I am recommending.
Honesty about average results.
I don’t know what average results are but I have to say this. I’ll bet the average results are WAY below the advertised possible results.
If you apply the product and work hard and get lucky and you are pretty smart with a strong work ethic, you might have above average results!
If not you really ought to be looking at another way to make a living.
