How About Something You’ll NEED to Put A PayPal Button On?
You need to know a little HTML to put a Paypal Button on your web page or blog. Actually you need a thing called an HTML “editor”. Check out the working demo sales page with Paypal Button – Note the FREE Download, too! Yes! You can download this for FREE!
I started my current Internet Marketing business without knowing how to do it! I guess that’s the way most people start. There are so many little details. One of the details that really threw me for a loop was the little matter of getting a paypal button installed and working.
For me, at least at first, everything related to online marketing, websites, code etc. is a huge struggle at first.
It all started the day I decided to put up an offer I had scraped together, run some traffic to it, see if it would sell, and make some money online. Sounds good, right?
One thing is for sure though, and that’s the hard fact that you can’t make any money unless you have a way to collect it! Enter paypal.
Paypal Button Instructions.
I already had an account at Paypal for personal reasons, but, to go commercial (sounds good doesn’t it?) I had to go through some additional hoops.
AFTER you enter your password Paypal takes you to the next screen. Look in the upper left hand corner. Under the PayPal logo there is a “My Account” tab.
Under (below) the “My Account” tab is a horizontal line of pull down menu headings. Move to the right…to the end. The LAST heading there is “Profile”
It didn’t seem natural to me that paypal buttons would be under profile, but they are, and now you know.
Don’t look at the pull down menu under “PROFILE”… JUST CLICK ON THE WORD “PROFILE” ! Sneaky.
So I clicked on profile and it took me to a page called “profile summary” which had three very busy columns of categories. You will want to look in the column on the right, the third column. It’s called “Selling Preferences”.
Move down 5 categories, out of about twenty in small print, and select “My saved Buttons”, even if you don’t have any saved buttons! When you get to this page look over to the right, and, sure enough, in very small print, is a link to “Create new button”. Click it. Click “Create New Button”.
(I could quit now and you’d be a lot further along now that you have actually FOUND the thing. But there is MORE PayPal sneakiness.)
When you arrive there, look at Step One. I was selling a product so I left the first choice at “product”. Move down one. The second choice is a simple yes or no and I clicked “no” because that is what decides to give you a “buy now” button.
Now you have to name your product. Make it clear and simple. Type it in. You can skip “item ID”.
Next is the selling price. Be careful to get that right. Next you want to select “Secure Merchant ID”. That way people can’t view source at your website and get your email for spam purposes!
Now you are done. With creating the button, but there’s more. A lot more.
With download products the norm is to send your customer to a download page right after they finish purchasing. This means you better have a download page and you better know it’s URL (address). Making a download page is a whole different article. It’s been suggested that you learn a little HTML editing.
Next is a simple but critical step. You move down, past Step Two (it doesn’t apply to you) and open Step 3. I do it this way. First choice – No. Second Choice – No. Third choice – no. Fourth choice – no. Skip the next choice and you are at the biggie. This is where you put in the address (URL) of your download page. Put it in! Move down and save.
Right after saving you will be shuttled to your button’s code. Copy it.
Now go to the sales page on which you want the button to show up and work. What I do is find the exact place I want the button to be on the page and I type in “paypal button”.
(Note) I type “paypal button” right where I want it on the “Normal” side (The side that looks like you want it to to the viewer). I put the button’s code on the “source” side EXACTLY where I find “paypal Button” in the code. REPLACE “paypal button” in the “source” with the button code you got at paypal! This is KEY! It’s how it works!
So – I’m repeating…switch to the source code of that page and find the very words you typed in (”paypal button”) and select them, and only them.(Not the quotes!) Now hit paste. Remember back when you copied your button’s code? This is where it goes!
Switch back to normal and…there it is! Your paypal button, right where you wanted it, and it works! I like to type the words “only $7″ or “Just $27)right above the button. Hit save.
Note!!! The next instruction may not work from the html editor you are using. If that’s the case, upload the file and try it from there! (if it doesn’t work, you have some little teeny typo and you have to go searching for it and fix it!).
Check it by clicking it. It should whisk you right straight to your very first paypal payment page. You’re in business!
As a final check you should move through the whole process like a customer would to make sure you go to the right download page and everything is working. If it is, fine, if it isn’t fix it. (try again)
Not to worry, any money you pay into your own paypal account is still yours, minus a small fee.
In my experience, if the url you enter in step three is the same as the url you have your download page at…it works.) My motto…trust..but verify.
Now, go get some traffic to that page. But not just any old traffic. Get the kind that wants what you are offering!
Then you really are in business.
Here’s to your success,
Riley West – An American Marketer in the Making.
PS: If you have been at it a while and haven’t made any money yet, it could be for the same reason I didn’t make any money! I was scattered! I needed direction. I needed a way around my obstacles. (Like building a web page!) (Like lack of Focus!)
Well, HERE is that way – Get this Special Report!
