Hello Folks!

You Can DO This!

You Can DO This!

I’m a 61 year old guy that lives in Eugene, Oregon in the hills just south of town among the trees, the deer, raccoons, and turkeys and squirrels. I have been in sales and marketing for over 30 years. But it was “old school.”

I thrived at it and then I grabbed onto the idea of selling by means of the net. Making money online! Internet Marketing! Affiliate Sales!

If I Can Do It…Perhaps You Can Too!

In 2008 I decided that selling information online was an elegant sales model and I began pursuing the dream.

You know what I mean, don’t you?

The dream is that you work at home, at your kitchen table, with your trusty computer, providing information to those customers willing to pay for it, and many who won’t.

The extra money you earn can solve a lot of cash problems and, if you work it right, you can quit your job and go full time. Or even better…go part time at full pay.

Well, as of the start of 2010 it hasn’t gone that way for me. But it keeps picking up.

For all the talk in this industry of how easy it is, I haven’t found it to be.

It’s hard work for me. Not hard work like digging a ditch (which I have done) it’s hard word like real, critical thinking.

But I find it fascinating. AND I have sold some things.

I’ll NEVER forget my first sale!

make-money-onlineI got up in the morning, I checked my stats, and there it was.

Money, from out there somewhere, going INTO my Paypal account!

I was jubilant. “Finally,” I thought, “I’m getting somewhere.”

Well, I might have picked the hard way. Or this IS hard.

I think that’s the truth. This is work.  But it’s doable. Better than digging ditches!

If you are one of the people who will pick this Internet Marketing thing up and run with it, I’d be glad to talk to you. I can probably give you some good tips. And I will, no charge.

About this blog:

My original intent was to just start right up writing about what I was learning in this new (to me) business.

When I was learning about article marketing I wrote about that. When I was learning about getting scammed I wrote about that. When I did something that turned out poorly I wrote about that.

And, while blogging on the topic I offered some of the things that I used along the way that I thought were extra helpful, and, when I was lucky, I earned an affiliate commission on it.

Imagine that. There I was doing something I was going to have to do anyway, and because I put affiliate links in there, I occasionally made some money.

So I had this idea. If I did the blog to the best of my capability, it would grow in size, in traffic and in sales. And that’s what is happening.

Still, I think I picked the hard way, and now that I have come this far, I think I would recommend against it for several reasons.

For example, I think it is true that the “Make Money Online crowd” is more difficult to market to than are the people who are searching for a solution to a problem such as “acne” or “fat” or “home brewing.”

But what I’m doing is starting to work, perhaps one reason it is starting to work is that I now have 160+ posts to this blog and a PR1 to go with it. Next stop PR2 and PR3.

This is becoming an “authority site.” And well it should, since I have become a bit of an authority on the subject I write about. Nothing compared to my mentors, of course, but that’s cool.

It reminds me of when I was in the University in California and had classes that required me to study something and write a paper on it for grade.

It’s that level of work. Actual critical thinking. Only the grade is a paycheck.

It’s the road I picked. I’ve been on this road for a year and a half and I’m NOT quitting because it’s starting to pay.

Let me go into that for a minute because an awful lot of people are interested in money.

I have distilled my understanding of online marketing down to an easy to see, “big-picture”, 3 word formula.

Here it is…  Offer +Traffic = Sales! That’s it.

So, in online marketing you have to learn to A. Pick a good offer and B. Offer it to the right people. Having those two things right equals sales! (equals money)

I hope it’s easier for you. If it is, would you be so good as to tell me about it?

This blogs author,

Riley West – An Internet Marketer In The Making.

PS: I am into this endeavor in 2010 about a year after I originally wrote this “about the author” page and things have picked up.

My traffic is growing, my opt-ins are coming at a higher rate, the list is getting bigger, my sales are increasing, my articles are producing more, and I am on Google page one for many low volume, low competition keywords relevant to affiliate marketing, which is my specialty.

I have to thank you for your consideration. I’ll try to be worth it.

Hi Riley!

Thanks for all your good – no, *excellent* ideas! They are lots more “help” than “hype” – not like the nonsense on so many other websites.

By the way, your “24hrWebpageGuru.pdf” file is outdated: the Nvu program and website doesn’t exist any more, it has changed to a new program name “KompoZer” at http://kompozer.net/ – I’ve used it, and it’s great: just like Nvu only better!

I will be posting your free pdf files on my website to help others. Write me, and I’ll send you the secret URL.

Best regards,
Dr. Bob the CompuNerd
