The Three Big Categories in Making Money on the Internet October 1, 2008

My current thrust is to clear up confusion for newcomers to IM and to point out resources that will help them.
Why am I doing this? Three reasons…
1. I get a kick out of it.
2. I’m good at it..and
3. I can make money at it.
A year ago I read a great book by Ken McCarthy in which I learned several important distinctions about how money is made by way of the Internet.
The Three Ways…
1. Sell actual, real, physical products on the web.
a. Golf Clubs, Hamster cages, Camera Batteries
2. Sell information! Comes in several forms.
a. E-books, Real Books, CDs, DVDs, audios, You Tubes, Seminars,
tele-seminars, etc.
3. Sell advice or otherwise help out other businesses that need help with Internet Marketing.
a. News Flash! - As soon as I was capable of building websites, inserting hyperlinks, and other e commerce functions I was helping other businesses do it for themselves.
b. Here’s a Biggie! - As soon as I was capable of driving substantial traffic to my own websites, I was asked to do it for others. See my adwords story on the next post.
This is just one way of looking at the vast opportunity staring you in the face whenever you look at the internet or study some IM material. I have only been involved for about 2 years and I have made money. It’s another story, but I didn’t make the money the way I wanted to or thought I should.
That happens to a lot of folks who are intrepid enough to stick it out like I did and you can.
Here is a great piece of advice…if you don’t understand keywords…get in there and study them until you do. If you don’t know how to build an HTML website…get in there and study until you do. A simple HTML website (webpage - I use one page sites) is far easier than most people realize. It’s just that until you know something…you don’t know it. It’s mysterious or otherwise oppressively burdensome. You don’t know what you don’t know.
I’m not sure why, but I get a kick out of that phrase.
The more you know how to do for yourself, the higher the number of opportunities that will present themselves to you!
One last thing…once you know how to make a website that will actually sell something AND you know how to send traffic (lots of potential customers) to it you will have the magic formula.
Here is the Magic Formula…Traffic + Conversion = Money. That’s it. More on that later! Now…go do your homework!

Internet Marketing Was Very Confusing To Me At First October 1, 2008
Posted by Riley West in : The Making of an Internet Marketer , 2commentsAs I’ve told you before, I am older than a lot of the people in this game. I’m 60.
But, what that really means is I’ve had more time than some for my successes and failures.
A couple of years ago I turned my then current business over to my sons, who have done an admirable job of improving it. That left me with time on my hands.
Now, I’ve been looking for ways to make money for a long time (35 years) and I have found several.
So it’s in my nature.
I’ve made things and sold them. That adventure ended up with a wood products factory, 20 employees, millions in sales and a lot of headaches.
One of the happiest days in my life was when I sold it all off and was suddenly without employees.
I never was a good employee in the sense that I didn’t want to stay. (wherever I was) It seems I never liked my Boss (or bosses) It seems like I thought I knew how to do things better than they did. It seemed to me that, no matter how hard I worked, they (my boss) could not have possibly cared less. When I think about it I still get agitated.
Later I worked out how to buy furniture at wholesale and offer it for resale to the public. That’s when I really started to learn about marketing. I did this from the early 80’s to now and in that time I watched the rise of the internet.
So it’s in my nature to want to work for myself and I have for many years, thankfully.
A couple of years ago I was sitting around (for a day or two - I don’t do much sitting around) and I typed into Google these three words… “make money online” …Oh, my God! I’ll bet you’ve done this, too!
What a flood of offerings! I started reading them. As you know the plans you are offered for making money online seem to range from those you can’t understand to those you know are a waste of time.
Still they are intriguing. Especially when you want to make money and you think there may be a way for you in the world of Internet Marketing.
I think there is a way for you and, actually, that is the central theme of this blog. So, stay tuned, I’m here to make sure you find your way.
I spent the next few days excitedly combing through the various offerings. I bought a few things. I tossed those aside.
I looked for other, better ways to make money online.
I didn’t have any idea what I was doing or especially I didn’t know how the Internet Marketing world was hammered together.
I wrote a book about the experience I had being very confused and frustrated at first. I detail all the BS I worked through and past in this book. There will be a download link in the next one or two posts that you can access.
You are not the only one or among the few that have been confused and overwhelmed by too much choice and not enough good direction in the IM world. Everybody has been.
Lots of us have been practically driven away by the carnival barking scam operators. Many of us have felt lost when offered what the IM world thinks is “high-end”, ultra powerful, top drawer instruction.
Especially newcomers.
People new to this have trouble spotting the plans that are designed strictly to separate a newcomer from his money. And these same people have little use for the $1000 Ultimate IM Package.
What you need at this tender moment in your tenure as a prospective Internet Marketer is a place to go where you can get the whole story without an agenda designed to keep taking your money.
You might be wondering just what that would be. I stumbled onto it accidentally. In it I discovered something that made me a lot of money and it didn’t happen in a way I had envisioned.
But why should it happen the way you think it should? You don’t have the full picture yet. That’s the way the gurus want it.
As long as you don’t have the whole picture they can keep selling you the next piece to the puzzle.
